VIBRATION DAMPING SOUNDPROOFING MATERIALS

sd1sa vibration damper

Introduction

Vibration damping insulation is used to reduce noise levels produced by resonant vibrations of structures which are caused by either continuous or impulsive excitation. Damping materials are particularly useful in the case of structures containing light gauge metal or panels. Examples of some of the many applications of vibration damping materials can be found in vehicle body work, machinery, machine enclosures, materials handling systems and lifts, domestic applications and hoppers.

Application

SD1SA self-adhesive damping sheets provide a simple method of achieving dramatic control of panel vibration and its associated noise. They are easily hand or die cut to size and are normally used on steel panels but are also effective on any other smooth surfaced panel. However, if the damping sheet is likely to be exposed to high humidities, it should be sealed with at least two coats of bituminous paint with particular attention paid to the edges.

General Description

Vibration damping sheet is a unique material whose efficiency is derived from the use of carefully formulated polymer together with mineral loaded additives. It is, therefore, ideal for use in all situations which require maximum effectiveness with minimum weight.

General Physical Data

Colour Olive
Supply Form Available in sheet form
Sheet Size nom. 1500 x 1000mm
Nominal Thickness 1mm +/- 10%
Piece Density 1kg/m² +/- 10%
Oil & Chemical Resistance	Diesel, oil, petrol and anti-rust agent have very little
effect. However, as self-adhesive glue is sensitive to
most fluids, the Damping Sheet should be protected
				against ingress of these.
Flammability
FMVSS 302 Meets the test requirements
	BS4735 (1971) Self-extinguishing
Temperature Resistance Short time up to 150oC
Shelf Life Approx. 12 months in unused condition stored in dry space at room temperature.

How to apply

The substrate should be clean and dry and metal surfaces should be painted with a suitable anti-rust paint prior to treatment.

DAMPING COMPOUND

Application

SVDC1 vibration damping compound is a sprayable/trowelable and fileable material which dramatically reduces noise levels produced by resonance in sheet metal. Applied in the same thickness as the substrate, it substantially improves the damping characteristics of the structure, thereby reducing vibration and preventing the radiation of noise. It is recommended for new construction metal enclosures of all types, cabinets, chutes, lift doors, vehicles and any other panels prone to resonate.

General Description

SVDC1 is a water based putty-like paste composed of a unique high efficiency polyvinyl acetate emulsion with mineral fillers.

Solvent Water
Density 1300kg/m³
Viscosity High thixotropic
Thermal Conductivity 0.3 w/m oC
Flammability
	BS476 Class 1 For 1.6kg/m² on 1.2mm steel

Sound Insulation Performance

The damping efficiency of SVDC1 depends on the ratio of the thickness of the damping layer to the substrate and the operating temperature. The graphs below show the relationship between these two factors and the damping efficiency of the compound when it is applied to a steel panel.
